SEATTLE, UNITED STATES | TUNGARU PRESS | October 26, 2026

The Seattle Seahawks delivered one of their strongest performances of the NFL season on Sunday night, defeating the previously unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs 20-3 behind an outstanding display from wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Smith-Njigba caught nine passes for 150 yards and a touchdown as Seattle's defence shut down quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs' usually dangerous offence.

The victory ended Seattle's two-game losing streak and improved its record to 4-3, while Kansas City suffered its first defeat of the season, falling to 5-1.

Smith-Njigba Leads Seattle's Offence

Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the standout performer for the Seahawks, repeatedly creating problems for Kansas City's defence.

The talented receiver finished with nine receptions, 150 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Sam Darnold completed a productive night with 257 passing yards and one touchdown.

Running back Emanuel Wilson also played an important role, carrying the ball 24 times for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Together, Seattle's offensive players controlled much of the contest and capitalised on Kansas City's mistakes.

Patrick Mahomes Struggles Against Seahawks Defence

The Chiefs entered the game with an unbeaten record but struggled to establish any offensive momentum.

Mahomes threw for just 165 yards and one interception, while Kansas City managed only 213 total yards.

Seattle's defence was particularly effective against the running game, limiting the Chiefs to just 50 rushing yards.

Former Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III, who joined Kansas City during the offseason, was also kept quiet.

Walker entered the game averaging a league-leading 133 rushing yards per contest.

However, against his former team, he managed only 36 yards from 14 carries.

The performance represented a major setback for a Chiefs offence that had been among the league's most productive.

Chiefs Coach Andy Reid Accepts Responsibility

Kansas City head coach Andy Reid acknowledged that his team had been outplayed in every major area of the game.

“Listen, all three phases we struggled, so we've got to do better, and that's my responsibility,” Reid said after the defeat.

“So I take full responsibility for this. We've got to play better as a team.”

Reid's comments reflected the disappointment surrounding a performance in which Kansas City struggled offensively, defensively and on special teams.

The Chiefs will now need to regroup after losing their unbeaten record.

Seahawks Take Control Before Halftime

Seattle opened the scoring early in the second quarter.

Darnold connected with Smith-Njigba for a 33-yard gain, helping the Seahawks move into scoring position.

Kicker Jason Myers then converted a 25-yard field goal to give Seattle a 3-0 lead.

Kansas City's problems increased on its next possession when Ty Okada intercepted a Mahomes pass intended for Jalen Royals.

Seattle took advantage of the turnover.

After Darnold extended the drive with a seven-yard scramble, he found Smith-Njigba for a 28-yard touchdown pass.

The score extended Seattle's lead to 10-0 with 1 minute and 44 seconds remaining in the first half.

The Seahawks threatened to score again before halftime, but Darnold was intercepted in the end zone by Kansas City's Nohl Williams.

Williams returned the interception 64 yards, setting up a long field goal attempt.

However, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker missed from 58 yards as the half ended.

Seattle Extends Lead in Second Half

The Seahawks continued to control the game after halftime.

Myers converted a 35-yard field goal to extend Seattle's advantage to 13-0.

Kansas City eventually responded late in the third quarter.

The Chiefs moved into Seattle territory, but a Mahomes fumble disrupted the drive.

Butker managed to convert a 50-yard field goal, reducing the deficit to 13-3.

It would prove to be Kansas City's only score of the night.

The Chiefs had another opportunity early in the fourth quarter after Mahomes completed a 19-yard pass to tight end Travis Kelce.

However, Butker missed a 45-yard field goal attempt wide to the right.

Seattle then put the game beyond reach when Wilson scored on a 21-yard touchdown run with 3 minutes and 47 seconds remaining.

The touchdown secured the Seahawks' convincing 20-3 victory.

Travis Kelce Reaches Historic NFL Milestone

Despite Kansas City's disappointing performance, veteran tight end Travis Kelce achieved an important career milestone.

Kelce made four receptions during the game, bringing his career total to 1,104 catches.

The achievement moved him past former NFL stars Marvin Harrison and Cris Carter into fifth place on the league's all-time receptions list.

It was one of the few positive moments for Kansas City on an otherwise difficult night.

Seahawks Coach Praises Team's Potential

Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald said the victory demonstrated what his team could achieve when performing at a high level.

“I think this game reminds the guys what we're capable of,” Macdonald said.

He added that the Seahawks still had room to improve.

“I think our guys understand that there's more levels to where we can go, and so I hope they feel the sense of urgency that we can get there because it is stuff that we can control.”

Macdonald's comments suggested that the team views Sunday's victory as an opportunity to build momentum rather than a reason to become complacent.

What the Result Means for Both Teams

For Seattle, the victory was an important response after two consecutive defeats.

The Seahawks improved to 4-3 and showed they could compete against one of the NFL's strongest teams.

Smith-Njigba's performance reinforced his importance to Seattle's passing attack, while the defence demonstrated its ability to contain elite offensive players.

For Kansas City, the loss exposed weaknesses that had not been as apparent during its unbeaten start.

Mahomes struggled to find consistent passing opportunities, Walker was unable to establish the running game, and missed field goals added to the team's difficulties.

The Chiefs remain 5-1, but their first defeat provides an opportunity to reassess before the next stage of the season.

Seattle's dominant performance ended Kansas City's perfect start and sent a clear message that the Seahawks remain a dangerous opponent as the NFL season continues.
